New Jersey – The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) NY-NJ-CT-NE joined the Indian American community in celebrating the launch of Lakshmi Murdeshwar Puri’s critically acclaimed novel, “Swallowing the Sun,” on Sunday, August 4th, at the Royal Albert’s Palace.
The event brought together a diverse audience eager to engage with the author and delve into her compelling narrative. Lakshmi Puri, a distinguished writer, former UN Assistant
Secretary-General, and Ambassador, captivated the audience with her insights into the novel during a conversation with esteemed physician and writer, Dr. Bhaswati Bhattacharya. The FIA has a longstanding friendship with Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, whose book was previously launched at the Jaipur Literature Festival. This time, the FIA gathered to celebrate the literary debut of his wife, Lakshmi Puri. Speaking about the novel, Minister Puri highlighted its exploration of three generations and its journey through the times before and after India’s independence. Ravi Batra, an attorney and prominent Indian American community leader, emphasized the novel’s resonance with the upcoming FIA India Day Parade on August 18th. He underscored how the book captures the spirit of a thriving Indian American community at this pivotal moment.
The FIA proudly supported the event with FIA President Avinash Gupta and board member Mr. Alok Kumar in attendance.
