On the 76th Anniversary of Indian Independence, the Indian Flag was hosted at Times Square, a significant event that signifies the strong bonds between India and the United States and showcases the pride that the strong and vibrant Indian Diaspora takes in their heritage.
The flag was proudly hoisted by the Hon. Consul General of India, New York, Mr. Randhir Jaiswal, who also unveiled the replica of the Ashok Chakra, which was presented in collaboration with the Indian American Art Council (IAAC) and the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of NY NJ CT. Present at the event were Santoor Maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Celebrity Chef Vikas Khanna, Director of IAAC Mr. Anil Bansal, TV Ais Chairman Dr. H. R. Shah, FIA President Mr. Kenny Desai, and FIA Chairman Mr. Ankur Vaidya, along with a host of community leaders and representatives.
Hon. CG Mr. Randhir Jaiswal conveyed his wishes to the gathering and said it's an occasion to celebrate Indian Democracy, its progress, and the success of the Indian Diaspora. The message of India today to the world is one of togetherness and unity, he further added. Mr. Kenny Desai said that it was a momentous occasion that showcased the unity and pride of the Indian community in the United States. The event served as a symbolic representation of India's rich history and its journey towards freedom. Mr. Ankur Vaidya said he is humbled, honored, and at the same time thankful to the mainstream American Community, the Mayor's office of New York City, and the Times Square Alliance for supporting the event for 4 years in a row. There was a presence of 1000+ people who gathered to witness the Flag hoisting, and the whole atmosphere reverberated with chants of Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata ki Jai. The audience was treated to an Odissi Dance performance- an Indian Classical Dance form performed by Surati Dance.
